Old Town - Orono Fiber (OTO Fiber) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation formed with three members, the City of Old Town, Town of Orono and the University of Maine System. OTO Fiber was formed to improve the access to ultra-high speed broadband for businesses and residents of Old Town and Orono. OTO Fiber’s service area is bounded by the municipal boundaries of the City of Old Town and Town of Orono. A 6 mile pilot project was built and funded by the combination of an Northern Border Regional Commission grant and City and Town money.
In June 2021, OTO Fiber and GoNetspeed (formerly OTELCO) signed an agreement that will bring 32 additional miles of service to the Old Town-Orono area. Interested residents can visit https://gonetspeed.vetro.io/map#5/43.91/-69.98 to see if their property will be covered by the new build and register their interest in the service. Service on the original pilot project fiber is expected to be active by September 30, 2021 and service on the new fiber build is expected to be available by August 2022.
